Social Media and their Influence on Democratic Elections

Technologický pokrok výrazně zlepšil způsob, jakým mohou lidé na celém světě komunikovat. Sociální sítě velmi usnadňují živou komunikaci nejen pro obyčejné lidi, ale také pro zástupce legislativní moci. Prostřednictvím sociálních médií mohou politici propagovat svou politickou kampaň a svou stranu a díky tomu rychle a ekonomicky získat podporu. Americká prezidentská volba v roce 2016 zdůraznila důležitost komunikace sociálních médií v demokratických volbách po celém světě. Cílem bakalářské práce je prozkoumat různé formy sociálních médií a vyzdvihnout jejich vliv na demokratické volby. Self-presentation strategies of political candidates in the Czech presidential campaign 2023

The bachelor thesis examines the role of visual communication in politics and the formation of self-presentation strategies of selected candidates during the Czech presidential elections in 2023. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces visual political communication, cognitive processing of images and the formation of political image through visual frames and relevant dimensions. The analytical part of the thesis uses quantitative and qualitative content analysis to explore the self-presentation strategies of candidates Petr Pavel, Andrej Babiš, Danuša Nerudová and Pavel Fischer on Instagram. The aim of the study was to find out how the selected political candidates used the social media Instagram for self-presentation and which visual frames they emphasized. An analysis of 1,371 Instagram posts of the selected candidates reveals a preference for the ideal candidate frame over the populist candidate frame. The analysis equally reveals gender differences in the use of the dimensions of compassion. The work further explores users' interactions with different visual frames and dimensions, and slight differences in the number of interactions are noted.
The media image of the second round of the presidential election on television

This master's thesis deals with the analysis of the media image of presidential candidates in the second round of presidential elections in the Czech Republic in January 2023. The aim of the thesis is to examine, through quantitative and qualitative content analysis of pre-election presidential debates, how individual candidates were presented on public and private television stations, and whether the principles of objectivity and impartiality were adhered to by the moderators. The first part of the thesis focuses on explaining key terms related to the subject matter, such as direct presidential election, media image, political communication, and the difference between public and private media. The presidential candidates and their political backgrounds are also introduced. The main part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of the pre-election presidential debates. The quantitative analysis provides precise data on the extent of airtime allocated to each candidate, the number and nature of questions asked, and other relevant factors. The qualitative analysis allows for a deeper examination of the course of debates, the moderators' approach to individual candidates, and the identification of possible violations of the principles of objectivity and impartiality. Initiatives aiming to reform the Electoral College in the United States of America

Bakalářská práce - Markéta Forejtová Abstract This thesis deals with initiatives to reform the Electoral College in the United States of America. The main goal of this thesis is to compare these initiatives and reflect their representativeness of election results. That means to evaluate how these initiatives assess individual votes cast. The main method used in this thesis is comparative analysis. This thesis is divided into four sections, with the first one briefly describing the creation of the Electoral College, as well as changes to its functioning until today. In the second part, controversial cases of presidential elections in the years 2000 and 2016 are described. The third part includes a description and comparison of the initiatives to reform the Electoral College, including their positive and negative aspects based on the criteria of individual vote reflection. To allow a more precise comparison, a hypothetical model of election results was created for each of the initiatives based on the 2016 presidential election. The fourth part explains the implementation of these potential reforms into U.S. law. This bachelor thesis focuses on the analysis of the campaign of presidential candidate Jaroslav Bašta, who is running for the political party Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) in 2023. Specifically, the content of his website will be compared to the content on the social network Facebook, which serves as a support for his candidacyThe thesis aimsis to identify differences between the content on these two platforms and to analyse the strategies used in the areas of marketing, public relations, and public opinion. The thesis will also examine whether the presidential candidate uses elements of illiberalism and how he communicates his electoral program. In the theoretical part, the thesis will focus on digital communication as a "new tool of political communication" and define key concepts and theories related to digital and political communication and marketing. The starting point will be the works of political scientist Chytilek (2012 or 2019), who specializes in political marketing, and the works of Matušková (e.g., 2006), an expert on political and electoral marketing. This bachelor thesis deals with the quantification of the influence of spent funds on the results of elections in the Czech Republic and political marketing. The aim is to evaluate the relationship between finances and votes obtained in elections. The first part explains the concepts of political marketing. Subsequently, data from the presidential, senate and parliamentary elections to the European Parliament and the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic are statistically processed. These data are commented and subsequently also transferred to the general level of elections in the Czech Republic. Recommendations are also made for setting up a successful election campaign.
Ukraine Constitutional reform in 2004 and Its Impact on the Development of the Country

The thesis deal with the constitutional reform in Ukraine approved in 2004 There were optimistic expectations about the regime change and moving closer to the model of West European states in 2004. The scope is to identify whether Ukraine followed the path of democratic transition or remained as an unstable hybrid state. It is focused on constitutional changes of the following chapters - elections and referendum, parliament, president, council of ministers and redistribution of power between these roles and impact on legislation and executive power. The regime type is influenced by these changes. Ukraine was classified as an authoritarian regime during Kuchma's second term in the Presidential office. The political system had been changed in 2006 when the new constitution came to power. Between a various classifications the most common ones, which had been used, were a semi- presidential system or presidential-parliamentary system. The choice of improper political system could be one of the key reasons leading to the failure of democratisation of the country when attempted.
Medial image of candidates for president in second round of elections

The aim of this bachelor thesis is Media image of the candidates for president in the second round of elections, which were held in the Czech Republic in 2013. Using the method of content analysis and visual analysis of three of the most read online news, outcomes were found. The purpose was to find out if some of the news favored one of the candidates, if the news supported stereotypes about candidates and how they reached it. It was found, that all online news wrote in favor of Karel Schwarzenberg. They showed him (through photos, headlines and reports) more often in positive way then they showed his rival Miloš Zeman. Server Novinky.cz showed both candidates the most often of all online news in positive way. It published the most of the headlines, pictures and reports, which were positive. The most objective daily news was Aktualne.cz, because of the fact, that it published the largest number of neutral photos, headlines and reports of all servers. The proportion of positive and negative reports was in this server the most even of all. Miloš Zeman was showed in the most cases as a self-confident man with empty hands.
